FAQ

What are the most frequently asked questions?

Q: WHAT IS THE SWS1 DRINKING WATER FILTER?

A: The SWS1 System is a cost effective undersink water filter system with its own tap. The system fits neatly under the kitchen counter or sink and comes with a comprehensive fitting kit for easy installation.

It is one of the simplest and most effective undersink drinking water filter systems available today.

Q: WHAT DOES THE SWS1 DO?

A: The ceramic filter element supplied as standard with the SWS1 delivers deliciously refreshing, clear pure water. Just the way you wish it be - safe and clean well-water.

Q: HOW DOES THE SWS1 WORK?

A: The water comes from the cold water supply under the sink, where it flows through the 'T' valve, along a tube and fills the filter housing. The water is then forced, under pressure, through the outer ceramic casing of the filter element and through the filter's solid carbon core to a channel, which runs up the centre of the filter element.

The clean water then flows out the housing outlet, through the tube to the filter tap at the sink.

Q: DOES THE SWS1 SYSTEM REMOVE EVERYTHING FROM THE WATER?

A: The filter will not remove trace elements from the water or beneficial minerals, such as calcium. It also doesn't remove normal or heterotrophic bacteria but the ceramic filter will remove dangerous pathogenic bacteria and chlorine and our LD ceramic lead filter will also remove lead and heavy metals. This ensures that the user can remain in balance with the environment, not have to drink sterile water, nor have to buy endless expensive bottled water.

Q: WHO USES WATER FILTERS?

A: The common driver with all our customers is a concern for their own health and that of their family. The addition of chlorine to the water supply is a good case in point. Water supplies, correctly treated with the chemical, pose very little risk to health, but there is still no getting away from the fact that chlorine is a poison and, at the very least, will alter the taste of your tea and coffee. Over exposure to chlorine in the shower, can cause dry, porous hair and can lead to eczema, particularly in children. Hair that has been coloured in the hairdressers is especially vulnerable and will discolour and lighten as a result. The SWS1 system is in use throughout the world.

Q: DO I REALLY NEED A WATER FILTER?

A: Even the “clean” tap water supplied by Irish Water today isn’t what most of us would consider as clean. Water travels through many miles of pipeline, much of it anchient, to get to us and it picks up contaminants, bacteria and treatment chemicals along the way. Water quality is under severe stress worldwide, mostly from extreme weather events and all of these factors degrade the quality of our drinking water supply. In Ireland, agriculture, lead pipes and a lack of investment are adding to the problems. Chemicals, such as Chlorine and Fluoride are added to the water for treatment purposes and pose their own health risks and problems, most notably identified by that Chlorine odour.

Q: HOW OFTEN SHOULD I CHANGE MY FILTER ELEMENT?

A: This very much depends on use and the quality of your incoming water supply.
Ceramic filter elements should be changed at least annually, but if your water is badly polluted or the system is being extensively used, it is advisable to change the element every six months or as often as necessary.

Q: IS THERE A GUARANTEE WITH OUR SWS1 SYSTEM?

A: The SWS1 system comes with our 10 year guarantee. So long as you purchase the filter element from Simply Water, at least once a year, as per maintenance instructions, the entire kit of parts, except the element, will be covered by our no quibble 10 year guarantee. Postage is extra.

Q: WILL I BE ABLE TO GET REPLACEMENT FILTERS IN THE FUTURE?

A: Simply Water has been developing water filters since 1989. We have systems from Russia, to the Far East to South America. The specialist company that manufacture our ceramic filter elements have been manufacturing filters for over 170 years and these filters are sold in 140 countries.

Q: WHAT HAPPENS IF MY WATER FLOW SLOWS DOWN DUE TO SEDIMENT OR DIRTY WATER?

A: Ceramic filter elements are designed to be cleaned with a stiff bristle brush or a plain metal or plastic pot scourer. This removes part of the outer surface of the element and will restore your water flow, but do not use any cleaning chemicals.

Commercial filters cannot be cleaned and should be replaced.
